Pave Setting

Pave Setting - The pave setting is one way in which gemstones can be attached to the respective pieces of jewellery. The pave setting is a special type of rubbed-in setting in which the gemstones are inserted into the recesses provided in the piece of jewellery. The surrounding metal is then pressed against the stone, fixing the gem in place. The upper side of the gemstone remains free and can be viewed unhindered. The pave setting is now in such a way that many small gemstones are inserted together, creating a continuous surface. Hence the name pave setting, which comes from the French word for paved. Because there is little metal to be seen on jewellery with this setting, the arrangement of the stones resembles a paved street. The high-quality elements of the pavรฉ setting are held in place by small beads attached to the material of the setting and fixing the precious stones. A pave setting is particularly suitable for gemstones in brilliant, carrรฉ, emerald, baguette, oval and round cuts.
