Folding Clasp

In contrast to the thorn clasp, the folding clasp is mainly found on watch straps made of stainless steel. It is also known as a hinged clasp. This type of clasp has a bow (usually made of stainless steel) that connects both ends of the bracelet. It is opened in a predetermined direction. There are two variants that are best known. In the first, the folding clasp has no buttons on the sides and is based purely on a pressure principle. The other has buttons on the sides that open the clasp when pressed. A particular advantage of this type of clasp is that it is quick and easy to put on and take off. Another variant of the folding clasp is the double folding clasp. Here, there are two folding bows that can be opened in opposite directions. Another term for this type is also butterfly folding clasp, as the way it works is reminiscent of the flap of a butterfly's wings. Folding clasps are therefore especially found on link bracelets or Milanaise-style bracelets.
