All objects made from silver for aesthetic purposes fall into the category of silver jewellery. Silver jewellery thus includes rings, chains, bracelets, hoops, buttons, charms, beads, cufflinks and earrings, which have high-quality silver as their main material. Silver jewellery is usually made of 925 silver, which is also known as sterling silver. The number 925 indicates the proportion of pure silver of this alloy in per mille. The remaining 7.5% is contributed by other metals, mostly copper. The fineness is therefore 925/1000. It is harder than pure silver and accordingly less sensitive to external influences. Sterling silver was used to make the English silver pennies, the so-called sterlings, from where the name originates. Silver jewellery can be divided into different categories so that the right piece of jewellery can be found quickly. A distinguishing feature can be the place where the piece of jewellery is worn, i.e. finger, wrist, ankle, neck or ear. Furthermore, silver jewellery can be distinguished according to its type, i.e. necklace, ring, bracelet, etc. Finally, it is also possible to draw a distinction within silver jewellery according to which the respective pieces of jewellery are assigned to a certain occasion, e.g. wedding rings or baptismal chains. In general it can be said that silver jewellery has a restrained but nevertheless high-quality character.
