The necklace has long been one of the most popular accessories in the jewellery sector. Chains were already used to decorate the neck in the Palaeolithic Age. The necklace is worn around the neck and is a self-contained piece of jewellery that is often variable in length. The size can usually be adjusted by means of a clasp, such as a carabiner, spring ring or bayonet clasp in combination with intermediate eyelets or an extension element. A clasp is often not necessary for longer necklaces, as they can be put on without any problems. The typical necklace consists of several interlocking or interconnected links. These are usually made of silver, gold or stainless steel and differ in their arrangement. The most well-known types of chains in the jewellery industry are anchor chains, curb chains and Figaro chains. Pendants in the form of a locket, pearls or engravable plates are also a wonderful addition to necklaces. If a necklace is particularly long, it can either be worn in a single row or wrapped around several times. With the so-called layer necklace, there are also necklaces that are already multi-row in their basic structure. In addition to layer necklaces, there are many other variations, such as the Y or omega necklace, which have their own characteristics.
