Earrings

Earrings are pieces of jewellery that are part of the category of ear jewellery. Colloquially, earrings often include all forms of ear jewellery, although classic earrings have a different appearance than other types in this category. For example, ear studs, ear clips and dangle earrings are often counted as earrings, even though, strictly speaking, they do not belong to this category. As the name implies, earrings usually consist of only one element - the usually self-contained ring. The best-known type of earrings are creoles, which can basically be called real earrings because they have the ring shape that gives them their name. They can have different closures. If the earring is hollow, the pin can be pushed into the hollow body at the back of the earlobe. But hinged closures can also be used to hold earrings in place. In addition to the closures, the sizes as well as material compositions of this ear jewellery can also vary. Whereas earlier cultures used materials such as wood, plastic or bone to make them, today earrings are made of gold, silver and stainless steel in various coloured alloys. Other materials are also possible. In addition, earrings are now often adorned with pendants of all kinds or with decorative elements such as pearls, zirconia or diamonds.
